More Fake News

Liberal press tries to tar Trump with the synagogue shootings.  Here’s a president who had the nerve to move our embassy to Jerusalem, and his son in law is Jewish.  The Israelis love Trump; they hated Obama.  But, according to the media, Trump’s somehow responsible for this bout of antisemitism.  Just more fake news.

Complex Recipes

You have to carry a kind of inventory of what foodstuffs you have available in your head to be able to bring off a complex recipe.  What cook hasn’t had the exasperating experience of getting set to do some very involved recipe, only to discover that one key ingredient is missing?  Your options are three: proceed without it and risk woeful under performance, stop everything and go to the grocery store to get the missing piece of the puzzle, or put it off for another day so that you will have everything you need.  Having all your ducks in a row, sort of speak, isn’t all that easy when you are a cook — and takes some real planning.

Republicans and Climate Change

I understand why the Republican are in denial about the human impact on climate change, what with their focus on economic development with fossil fuels playing such a key role.  But it’s still denial.

The Brightest Star in the Night Sky

Henry Barnard's avatarHenry's Views

Before and after thee, an infinity.
Life but a momentary thing
That dissolves in eternity.
Applause and glory, misbegotten,
Your memory long forgotten.

The directing mind alone a divinity.
The body a loathsome encumbrance.
To benefit others the nitty-gritty —
Everything else a wide circumference.

Dedicate your life to others, the mantra.
Dismiss pleasure and pain, a recanter.
Come back to the inner mind, a sanctuary.
Remember the one purpose eleemosynary.

He wrote to himself not to forget,
Keep to the singular purpose dead set.
The brightest star in the night sky, Sirius,
That’s the immortal Marcus Aurelius.

All poetry — Henry Barnard

Road Rage

Henry Barnard's avatarHenry's Views

You have heard the awful stories recounted many times.  Someone loses control to road rage and shoots and kills another driver or some variation with the same outcome — one man, incensed, murders another, a total stranger, with no reasonable justification.

And our common reaction to this scenario is stark horror that anyone could be so cruel as to willfully murder a perfect stranger that way.  But I would submit the murderer is also a victim here.  The roads are really a disaster lying in wait for the next impatient driver, and we are all that impatient driver — we are all in a hurry to get where we are going fast, and yet the roads are often filled beyond their capacity, particularly at rush hour.  So they are a trap waiting in the wings for all of us — we are all susceptible to being swept away…

More Plant Food

Anyone else like the taste of fennel?  I find it very unique and interesting.

Just discovered that you can eat snow peas raw, and added them to my last salad.  Snow peas might be an interesting way to eat a dip — use them to scoop some hummus.

The rage is to make your own salad dressing so that you avoid all that oil (a processed food really, with 120 calories per teaspoon that you can avoid) in commercial salad dressings.  Not that hard to do.  Check out the site below for ideas.
