I am a voracious reader and also enjoy writing. I often have a very different point of view than the popular one. I do see value in debate, and thought it might add to the public debate on controversial issues if I were to express my contrarian opinions. I also started keeping my poems recently (I've written little pieces my whole adult life but never kept any); and I've been a photographer now for over 25 years. So I will be adding an occasional poem and hopefully interesting photograph to the blog along the way, just to spice things up.

“Life on Our Planet.”

Fact: 99% of all the species that have existed no long do. There have been four mass extinctions where a majority of the existing species go extinct, and there have been many more minor ones.

For a dominant species to go extinct, that would be necessitated by the earth changing its condition in some way that cuts off something vital to the survival of that species. For humans, that would be our oxygen supply.

That there has been four mass extinctions tells me there will be a fifth. That would be ours.

The Romans used to have these so-called “triumphs,” granted by the Senate, where a celebrated person, usually a recently successful general, would lead a procession on a chariot through the streets of Rome to the Forum. The entire city would turn out for these occasions in celebration — think a Saint Patrick’s Day parade on steroids.

Accompanying the celebrated person would be an inconspicuous individual directly behind him on the chariot, whispering into his ear the refrain, “You are NOT a god.”

Anti-Russia Policy

The anti-Russia policy of the US government has been a disaster, and what we are encouraging in Ukraine has pretty much destroyed that country — the fault not of Russia, but of NATO’s aggressive expansion eastward, encouraged by the US.

With respect to Ukraine, Russia had no choice but to protect their “sphere of Influence” against this NATO aggressive expansion. That’s what great powers do. That’s what the US did in the Cuban Missile Crisis; that’s what the Russians are doing in Ukraine.
