I am a voracious reader and also enjoy writing. I often have a very different point of view than the popular one. I do see value in debate, and thought it might add to the public debate on controversial issues if I were to express my contrarian opinions. I also started keeping my poems recently (I've written little pieces my whole adult life but never kept any); and I've been a photographer now for over 25 years. So I will be adding an occasional poem and hopefully interesting photograph to the blog along the way, just to spice things up.
Billions
They think the known universe is something like 14 billion years old. That could conceivably mean that somewhere out there is a civilization that has been around for 1 billion years.
Our modern civilization on Earth is only about 3000 years old (homo sapiens for 1 million years) — compare that to a civilization that has existed for 1 billion years. We have come a long way technologically in only 3000 years, but just think how advanced a civilization would be that has existed for 1 billion years. Such a civilization would regard us as “advanced” as mere bacteria.
US and Russia
No good reason why Russia couldn’t be an ally of the US, except for the virulent Cold War, anti-Russia mentality of the State Department.
The stupid foreign policy of the US government is turning Russia into a mortal enemy — the one country in the world with a nuclear threat that could destroy our country. Is that wise?
