Back in 1995, I weighed 260 pounds. At 5’7″, I was clearly obese, and I knew I had to make a change. During my lunch breaks, I would go to a local bookstore and read diet and nutrition books, searching for an approach that would finally work.
That started what has become a 30-year passion for nutrition.
Over the years, I’ve read hundreds of books and articles and spent countless hours studying nutrition and health. Books such as Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman and The China Study completely changed the way I thought about food and health. More recently, I’ve continued learning through lectures and courses on topics ranging from whole-food nutrition to the science of metabolism and even mitochondrial health.
After retiring in 2012, I continued studying nutrition simply because I love the subject. About six months ago, I realized I could use that knowledge to help other people—especially those struggling with weight, since I’ve been there myself.
To strengthen my qualifications, I completed the six-month certification program through Precision Nutrition and am now a Certified Nutrition Coach. The program not only expanded my nutrition knowledge but also taught me effective coaching techniques to help people make lasting changes.
